In the book ‘Behind Media: Television’ by Catherine Chambers, she describes the situation comedy as something that “explores the reactions of people and the relationship between them in specific situations.” The Wikipedia definition of a situation comedy is “a genre of comedy that features characters sharing the same common environment, such as a home or workplace, with often humorous dialogue.”

 

 

Origins:

Sitcoms originated from radio as before the invention of television different voices could be heard to represent different characters.
